THE RETURN OF SWANSEA SLIP BRIDGE
at 18:07 16 Aug 2018

Message from Facebook

PLEASE SHARE OUR GOOD NEWS !!

We are happy and proud to announce that after meeting with the Leader of the Council , Rob Stewart , he has decided to give full political endorsement to our project and has instructed the Economic Development Team at the council to start work on the task of delivering a new replica span for the bridge with immediate effect .

It has long been accepted that one of the greatest assets of the city , our beautiful bay , is under facilitated and therefore underused . It's now time to bring people back to the bay by offering a selection of cafes , bars , restaurants etc . A number of sites have been identified as prime candidates for redevelopment and The Slip is one obvious area that was always a destination for the people of Swansea .

Bringing the bridge back into use will enable an expansion of facilities....a cafe / restaurant , toilets ,parking, perhaps a Visitor or Heritage Centre to celebrate the worlds first passenger railway ,The Mumbles Train, a claim to fame that is barely recognised or celebrated in the city today .

All this will follow , but the first task is replacing the span and restoring the bridge to its former glory, not just as a bridge, but as a much loved and iconic heritage structure , a reminder of our proud industrial past that will stand alongside our exciting new future that is taking shape right now.

One last point......no new public money is being sought for this project . It will be financed from external funding sourced by the Economic Development Team who already have a fantastic track record of delivering on many heritage projects in the city such as Hafod Morfa Copperworks and White Rock . Ongoing maintenance costs for the Slip Bridge , which will be minimal, are to be met from the profits of any commercial enterprise.

We will of course be working alongside the council on this project and will be posting updates to keep you up to speed with progress . Please bear with us , it won't be happening overnight , but it will be happening !!!!

Geraint Thomas: Max Boyce immortalises Tour de France victory
at 11:14 5 Aug 2018

"The Boy Who Climbed A Mountain" ... by Max Boyce

Sung to ... "Hymns and Arias"

There's a pillar box in Cardiff, where the mayor has arranged

To buy some tins of yellow paint, and have the colour changed

And down in Cardiff city hall, I've heard the council say

We'll change the name of the Severn Bridge, to the Geraint Thomas Way

Now Whitchurch High are justly proud, and they love to tell the tale

How he carved his name in the wood of a desk, like Warburton and Bale

And where his yellow jersey hangs, beside the wooden beams

This boy who climbed a mountain, and dared to chase his dreams

But there were some who doubted, 'he doesn't stand a chance'

There's never been a Welshman, who has won the Tour de France

But he's more then just a domestique, I've known it all along

The boy deserves a knighthood and his bike deserves a gong

Now the Grogg shop up in Ponty, are working night and day

But people are complaining, there's such a long delay

The kilns are full of Geraints, with a Welsh flag shouldered high

But people have to understand, his hair takes time to dry

So I'll buy a Grogg of Geraint, though I know they don't come cheap

And I'll sell my one of Elvis, and one of Lynn The Leap

'Coz when G rode through Paris, and he waved to all the crowd

He climbed more than a mountain, he made a nation proud

So I hope it's fine next Thursday, to welcome Geraint home

They say the Pope is coming, he's flying in from Rome

And Donald Trump is coming too, he said it should be fun

This guy deserves a medal, so I'll come on Air Force One

So I hope it's fine on Thursday, but I think it's still in doubt

So Derek has suggested, we keep our brollies out

So I'll stand outside the city hall, with its gilded marble dome

And sing like England soccer fans, that Geraint's coming home

Medicinal cannabis to be legalised on prescription in UK
at 18:12 26 Jul 2018

Some common sense at last

Donna Kinnair, director of nursing, policy and practice at the Royal College of Nursing, said: "This is a very welcome move by the home secretary.

"RCN members voted overwhelmingly at our annual congress in May to lobby the governments across the UK to decriminalise cannabis for medicinal use, because nurses were worried that vulnerable patients are currently being forced to self-medicate or medicate their children from sources that aren't necessarily safe."
