Saints V Huddersfield Town The Preview
at 15:05:23

I thought Tyreke Johnson was on loan at W oking, but out with a long term injury? The U23s have been struggling this year, after being promoted. Nobody looks near ready for the first team.

Saints V Manchester United The Verdict
at 15:14:09

Watched the game again, and spotted that the J WP
" handball" in the 1st half, hit his shoulder. Not only that, Young had his foot up at head height. Dangerous play, free kick to Saints and a yellow card. Young was booked in the game, so should have picked up two yellows, and been sent off.

A Rough Guide To Fulham

Do not forget their is an RMT strike that day, so may only be one train an hour to Waterloo from Southampton. Also, some branch line services may not run at all. Also, rugby game at Twickers if going by car.

Saints Being Linked With All And Sundry But Will Any Get Over The Line
at 11:18:40

I would be very surprised if we actually brought a striker. It does not seem to be a priority for the club, even though it is for the fans. If we did though,, I would prefer Welbeck. I like Ings, but we already have a player in Austin with a bad injury record. I would see Alcacar as a Long replacement. I also see Montoya as a Pied replacement. So, Welbeck, Alcacar and Montoya would be very welcome, but unlikely.

Saints Head To China
at 18:33:42

I am interested in how the likes of Gallagher, Reed, Targett, McQueen, Sims, Slattery and Hesketh fare. I see Seager is not in squad, so must assume still Injured. He was seen as a prospect a few seasons ago, but always injured. Even some of the younger ones have the chance to impress Hughes, like Jones and Valery. And Classie of course, but would be surprised if not let go, albeit on loan.

Saints Announce Big New Signing
at 13:02:36

Looks like a good replacement for Tadjic. Younger, stronger and more versatile in that he can play anywhere in a front 3. I agree we still need a proper CF, and a big CB better than we have. Then just sell deadwood, (Redmond, Classie) but keep best. Will be Interesting to see what happens to the likes of Gallagher, Targett and McQueen.

Saints Make First Signing Of The Summer
at 18:59:45

A good signing for a good price. Box to box goalscoring MF. I expect 10 goals from him. More would be nice, but lets not get too greedy! Replacement for Davis, rather than Tadic. J W-P may find it difficult to get a game. I was hoping he would develop onto this type of player. Maybe he still can.

Saints About To Make Their First Signing Of The Summer
at 22:22:22

I have been saying for a number of years that we need a player with the engine of Steve Davis, but who can score. This guy could be that man. Just hope we can do a deal before he is poached, like Maddison.

Bristol City Want Saints Utility Player
at 11:49:48

Targett has one fatal flaw - no pace. I have watched a few of his games with Fulham on TV. It is evident he cannot beat a man on the outside. He maybe could be a conventional full back, but not a wing back. McQueen at least can beat a man, but maybe just below Premier league quality. I think he would be a great reserve, but is he willing to settle for that?

Season Ticket Prices Frozen But It Is Not Enough !
at 13:45:35

I renewed my season ticket. Prices have been held for a number of years. I think that unless the price of a season ticket was drastically cut, it would not not make much difference to take up. If somebody is broke, then paying £600/700 is a lot of money, esp for a family. BUT so would £300/350. It will be interesting what happens when they decide to put prices up. That might see a fall, esp if we have had a bad season.

St Mary's Stadium Could Get A New Train Station
at 11:39:18

Until start of the year I worked for a railway trade union. A station as part of a light rail system could be possible, but costly. A major problem for heavy rail is that the usual services from London, for e.g., do not terminate here. So, a station would have to be build on the main line. As has been pointed out already, that is not easy or cheap. I remember saying at the time that Siemens have built the depot in the wrong place. That is where a main line stop should have been. The depot should have been at the old Eastleigh rail works. A short time solution could be to going back to having free bus tickets in with the match ticket. It would be far cheaper to then also subsidise new electric buses, which can be used all week not just on match days. The idea of investing in electric car charging points etc should also be a cross party policy.

What Really Cost Saints The League Cup Final !
at 13:55:24

The Daily Telegraph sports section actually showed in 2 photos why the first goal went in. Two Utd players charged into Davis and knocked him out of the way, leaving what the DT called a "clear gap" in the wall. So, Davis was fouled. I think the first club I saw using this tactic was Chelsea and John Terry a number of years ago. Saying that, Romeu should not have given the foul away. Not the first time this year. But, still my first choice MF every game. For the 2nd goal, Davis lost his man from the throw, but the CBs did not react. The 3rd, I think was due to us going for the win and putting too many men forward. If we played for extra time, maybe the fact that Utd had played 3 games more than us would have told. And if Gabba had stayed on for the cross just a short while later...

Will Work Permit Issues Stop Saints Signing Defender ?
at 14:28:04

It may be that the club see no reason getting in another CB. We are in a Wembley final, and as long as we do not get relegated and maybe get a top ten finish, that is good enough. The plus side would be the blooding of Stephens, seeing how good Yoshida is without Fonte or VVD, and the rehab of Gardos. Of course, the downside would be they are all crap, and we lose game after game! Only time will tell.

Saints At Arsenal The Verdict
at 10:27:46

Arsenal fans will moan that they made 10 changes, but we made 8, and as was pointed out in the article, only 3 would be 1st team. I think it was an encouraging display from Boufall. Needs to do more work off the ball, but had a hand in both goals. At times Long was the only Saint player in the Arse half, and Boufal needed to get nearer to him. But minor moan, and he drew many fouls for shirt pulls and kicks as the Arse struggled to stop him. No real issues with any of the team. I agree we do need to put a strong team out V HBS next Thursday, but playing McQueen and Sims, for eg, does not really weaken the team. Not even Yosh for Fonte. Hehad a good game, and his long ball pass lead to the first goal. One or two errors, but steady, and no real "Kamakaze kid" moments. Martina linked up well, but did also lose the ball more than I would like. So V HBS I would play Cedric for Martina, Austin for Long, Romea for Reed. I would not use Redmond, who has been off his game, and play either McQueen or even Long. That should be enough to beat HBS. But we have Palace away next up, I am on the coach. Be interesting to see who starts.

I saw the documentary on White V Blacks at WBA on BBC. One of the white players said he could not really remember the game as he played 75 matches that year! They were THAT hard in the 70s - no rotation then.

Should Saints Go For Cabaye Or Schneiderlin In January ?
at 13:14:28

Of the 2, spiderman. But agree need another striker before centre mf. But need goal scoring mf before cmf. We will not get even 10 goals combined from Davis, W-P, Classie, Romeu., Hojbjerg. Nor from nippers in the squad Reed, Hesketh, Isgrove.
I am hoping that Jay Rod can stay fit, and play wide. he may not be a better scorer than Austin, but got more speed for the wide position. I like Redmond, but can we wait until he learns new position., if he ever can. Walcott has struggled for years to adjust from winger to his own prefered striker role for eg.

Saints Have Had Identical Start To Last Season !
at 17:14:03

That's one way of looking at the results. But, if we compare "like with like" of who we have played, actually 4 points worse off.
Team 2015/16 16/17 Better/worse
Watford 3 1 Worse -2
Man United 3 0 Worse -3
Sunderland 3 1 Worse -3
Arsenal 1 0 Worse -1
Swansea City 3 3 same
West Ham 0 3 Better + 3
Leicester City 0 1 Better +1 = Worse -4
