Indeed.

You’d have to think that mistake would be a sackable offence? Not intended I know, but that’s a huge giveaway.

They may have been selling it for that price but they didn't pay that much for it. I've seen it on sale at £2,000 a bottle. Still scandalous. Only 500 cases made to keep the price up.

It is worth noting they were buying £250 wine. Been to a couple of The Hawksmoor restaurants in London, either the early evening set menu or a burger in the bar. Seriously good meat.

I was in New York recently and was trying to find some proper Southern Comfort. They had Apothic wine at $30 plus tax, it's around £7 in Costco and less than a tenner in supermarkets. I didn't bother with the SC after that. Their duty free was also much dearer than our supermarkets.

It’s a tiny vineyard, they make as much as they can. I doubt if the price would drop much if they made 5000 cases. A lot of top dollar wines end up as trophies in Russia and China these days.

Most drinkers could tell the difference between a £10 and a £100 bottle. Very few could tell the difference between a £100 and a £1000 one.
