The C Word

Pound in the swear box for Garry Monk this week as he broke rule number 1 in the post match interview manual following the defeat at Stoke. The use of the word cheating.

“The penalty was a disgusting decision, the lad Victor Moses should be done for cheating, and he tried to con the referee”

The Swans manager’s comments did not go down very well with Mark Hughes or the rest of the Stoke camp but are understandable given that Monk spoke out on this issue a few weeks ago, even going as far to say his side were being punished for trying to play fair.

There is no doubt that since taking the manager’s job Garry has had a positive effect on the team and the club, righting many of the wrongs from the stewardship of predecessor Michael Laudrup. The dressing room harmony has returned and the concerns about Monk not being able to recruit the right players has been put to bed.

However now it seems that Garry wants Swansea City to be seen as a club that does things right both on and off the field. He has spoken about how he wants his players to respect the match officials and are fined in training if they dive or throw themselves to the ground unnecessarily.

I think fans would want more honesty in the game too, especially after being subjected to the antics of Chico Flores for last two seasons. Unfortunately though football is far from a perfect world and in such a competitive environment like the Premier League, 3 points are worth more than a hell of a lot more than a clear conscience.

The onus is therefore back on the match officials who after the introduction of goal line technology and magic spray cream could be forgiven for thinking that their job would be a little easier.

For all you diving enthusiasts out there, here is a little YouTube compilation. Enjoy;
